Prevention & Diagnostics
Infectious diseases
Classify infections correctly — assess and treat them in a targeted way.
Did you know?
Not every infection needs an antibiotic – and not every infection that at first seems harmless
runs an uncomplicated course. What matters is to distinguish between viral and bacterial infections and between
uncomplicated courses and those that need treatment, and to use diagnostics in a targeted
way.
Because of the Mediterranean climate, international travel and close contact with people from
different regions, we also encounter infectious diseases on Mallorca that can
occur less often in Central Europe.
What we deal with
- Acute respiratory infections, influenza and COVID-19
- Gastrointestinal infections and travel-related diarrhoeal illnesses
- Urinary tract infections, including recurrent symptoms
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
- Diseases transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes
- Assessment of certain viral infections, for example viral hepatitis
- Persistent symptoms after infections that have been overcome
- Recurrent infections
- Fever of unknown cause
When a medical assessment is appropriate
- Fever lasting several days or without an identifiable cause
- Symptoms that do not improve or that worsen again
- Marked weakness or a clearly reduced general condition
- Signs of infection after travel abroad or to the tropics
- Noticeable skin changes after a tick bite
- Recurrent infections within a short time
How we proceed
After a detailed consultation and the physical examination, we decide
individually which further diagnostics are appropriate.
Depending on the clinical picture, a blood count and inflammatory markers,
urine tests, swabs or targeted pathogen detection may be required, for example. For certain
questions, further blood tests or X-ray and
ultrasound diagnostics are added.
This allows us to avoid unnecessary examinations and treatments and to choose therapy as
specifically as possible. We use antibiotics deliberately where a bacterial infection
is likely or has been confirmed and antibiotic treatment is medically appropriate.
Prevention is part of it
Complete, individually tailored vaccination protection can protect against numerous
infectious diseases and severe courses of illness. We review your
vaccination status, advise you on necessary boosters and — depending on your destination and individual
risk — on travel vaccinations.
We also advise you on sensible protective measures, for example against diseases transmitted by mosquitoes
or ticks.
