Vaccinations in pregnancy
Certain vaccinations in pregnancy protect not only you as the expectant mother, but also your child in the first months of life – through so-called nest immunity Pertussis (whooping cough):
Doubly protected — for you and your baby.
- Standard vaccination in the 3rd trimester – ideally between the 28th and 32nd week of pregnancy
- Also possible earlier if there is a risk of preterm birth
- Recommended in every pregnancy, regardless of vaccination status
- Protection of the newborn against severe whooping cough
Influenza (flu):
- Recommended from the second trimester; earlier in the case of chronic diseases
- Protection against severe courses of illness and complications in pregnancy
COVID-19:
- From the second trimester, vaccination with an mRNA vaccine is recommended
- Protection against severe courses in pregnancy and against preterm birth
RSV vaccination:
- RSV can cause severe respiratory disease in infants
- Single vaccination with the RSV vaccine (Arexvy®) between the 28th and the 36th week of pregnancy
- Recommended from September to March (RSV season), with the aim of passive protection of the newborn
- Particular recommendation where there are siblings of toddler age
